The Weather Outside is Frightening: Pt 2

It’s winter again, & I’ve noticed an abundance of “I hate this cold!” “This weather SUCKS!” “I’m not going anywhere in this weather” tweets & facebook statuses. I am here to help you embrace the weather & experience life, even through the tough weather times!

1.) Embrace the cold, bundle up, & take a walk downtown with friends. With all the Christmas lights & the holiday spirit you’ll forget about the cold! (For a few seconds at least.) Sometimes we forget how beautiful life can be if we just embrace it.

2.) Still on the list from last year, READING TERMINAL MARKET, located at 12th & Arch, is full of warmth, & love, & food, & jewelry, & music, & people, & MORE! If you’re looking for something small but huge at the same time, this is the place to go. With an enormous variety of food and drinks, cooking classes, flowers, etc; you can find everything you need for life in this market.

3.) The Art Museum! With all the exhibitions they have right now, it’s a shame that more people don’t explore The Philadelphia Museum of Art on a regular basis (including me). Their current exhibitions include: An Eakins Masterpiece Restored: Seeing The Gross Clinic AnewMichelangelo Pistoletto: CittadellarteMichelangelo Pistoletto: From One to Many, 1956–1974; & more!

PLUS: You can’t beat Pay What You Wish Sundays! Pay whatever amount you’d like & visit the art museum all day on the 1st Sunday of each month! :)

4.) Philadelphia is filled with warm theaters & centers, such as: Wilma Theatre, Walnut Street Theatre, The Kimmel Center, Wells Fargo Center, etc! Get involved with what’s going on in your city. There are always concerts, shows, etc. Volunteer, explore, enjoy!

To find out when a show you’re interested in is near visit: http://www.visitphilly.com/music-art/theater/

5.) Restaurants are great places to go to get warm food in this cold cold weather. Some of my favorites for the winter are:

  • Bridget Foy’s {200 South St} : The food at Bridget Foy’s is extravagant & you can buy the art that they show on their walls! How awesome is that? Also, around the holidays they come out with winter drinks which are more than delicious ;) http://www.bridgetfoys.com/
  • PYT {1050 N Hancock St} : PYT gives you a reason to visit at least once a week! If it’s not for the amazing burger of the week, it’s for one of the amazing parties they’re throwing. A Burger, party, music, living joint rolled up in one. Can’t beat that with a baseball bat! http://www.pytphilly.com/
  • Singapore Vegetarian {1006 Race} : Being a vegetarian, I find it to be life saving when I find full on vegetarian restaurants. Singapore has been my favorite vegpot so far. The food is marvelous & the atmosphere is so chill. My favorite entree: Sweet & sour “chicken” with brown rice! YUM.  http://www.singaporevegetarian.com/
